MILLA JOVOVICH

Date of Birth: December 17, 1975

Milla Jovovich was born in Kiev, Ukraine. Her family emigrated to the United States when Jovovich was five, temporarily settled in Sacramento, California and then relocated to Los Angeles. She started modeling when she was nine. Her mother, a Russian stage actress, became her manager as she pursued an acting career, and her first role came in the Disney TV movie The Night Train to Kathmandu (1988). The exposure led her to other modeling contracts. Controversy over her age began, but in the end she became the youngest model to ever be on the cover of a fashion magazine. By the time she was 11, Jovovich was earning $3,500 for a day's work.

Although she got the work, her career was bad-mouthed by the media and talk shows who associated her with child pornography, prepubescent supermodels and eating disorders. Jovovich used the bad press to her advantage to get her acting career going again. She succeeded in getting parts in films like Two Moon Junction, Return to the Blue Lagoon and Kuffs.

In October 1992, at the age of 16, she married fellow actor Shawn Andrews from the film Dazed and Confused. The marriage quickly ended, lasting just over a month before it was annulled.

Having placed a solid grip on the modeling and film industry, Jovovich set out to conquer the pop music realm and in 1994 she cut her first album, The Divine Comedy.

Since her appearance in The Fifth Element (1997) as the orange-haired supreme being, her place in the film world seems to be looking up. She has appeared as Joan in Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999), Zoolander (2001), Resident Evil (2002) and its five sequels, Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010), Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2017).

In 1997, Jovovich and Fifth Element director, Luc Besson were married. Another relationship gone bad, this union only lasted two years. In March 2003, she announced her engagement to Resident Evil director Paul W.S. Anderson. Their daughter, Ever Anderson, was born on November 3, 2007 and they were married in August, 2009.
