REGINA KING

Date of Birth: January 15, 1971

A native to Los Angeles, Regina King studied under acting coach/actress Betty A. Bridges, mother of actor Todd Bridges for ten years, before and during King's first TV role on the series 227.

With this show King made a name for herself. She played the perennially petulant daughter to Marla Gibbs for three years on the series before making her film debut in John Singleton's Boyz N the Hood. Other television credits include guest appearances on New York Undercover, Living Single, and Northern Exposure.

She went on to star in two more films for Singleton: Poetic Justice and Higher Learning. King began to be recognized by a mainstream audience after her role as Cuba Gooding Jr.'s wife in Jerry Maguire. For her role as Marcee Tidwell, King received rave reviews. She gained notice from critics and audiences alike as the fiercely protective wife of a charismatic football player.

After playing Will Smith's wife in the action thriller, Enemy of the State (1998), King co-starred with Angela Bassett and Whoopi Goldberg in the comedy How Stella Got Her Groove Back (1998). In 2000, King played a crusading public-defender/social-activist in I Was Made to Love Her.

Other film credits include the hit comedy Friday (1995), Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003) and A Cinderella Story (2004). Currently, she plays a regular role as Detective Lydia Adams on the police drama Southland.

King and her husband Ian Alexander have a son, Ian Alexander Jr.
